This page was home to the letter-writing campaign for Vladimir Kara-Murza, an unjustly imprisoned Russian dissident. You can read more about him in our newsletter spotlight here. Huge thank you to everyone who wrote to Vladimir! We received, translated and successfully sent 175 letters.
CAMPAIGN IS NOW CLOSED
Letters are key in battling isolation in prison, they are one of the few glimmers of hope a person in jail can have. It is especially important since, as we learned recently, Vladimir’s jailers stopped allowing letters to come through — but for all we know, our letters have passed censorship and have been delivered.
Thank you again. It means the world to us that so many people took part in the campaign, and I am sure it also meant a lot to Vladimir.
Here is the thank you letter that he sent us:
Hello Ksyusha (OVD-Info representative)! Huge thanks for another batch of letters from your international readers — and huge thanks to OVD-Info volunteers for the translations. I’m especially happy to read letters from old friends, acquaintances and classmates/coursemates.
Thank you for everything you and your colleagues are doing. This is very important work. And the dawn will definitely come.
Always yours,
VKM
